Pre-School Children
Young children have good listening and copying skills. We aim to make best use of their ability to listen and copy new sounds, intonation and gesture by making young children aware of similarities and differences in the world around them. Songs, rhymes, stories and games are easily accessible language learning activities for young children. Simple progression comes through exploration of core and bolt-on vocabulary, through playing with the language to see how it can be fitted together to meet the needs of new situations.
Entre dans la ronde can be used by nursery, reception and Years 1 and 2 teachers who have a basic understanding of how French works. The cross-curricular activities are familiar to early years and can be used to foster skills in areas broader than just language, e.g. motor skills in action songs and art and craft activities or social skills in pretend play and simple game situations. The modules can easily run alongside topics used with Foundation years and would permit cross-curricular projects. The learning experience can be enhanced with the help of a language specialist.
We also have another resource, La Ronde des Petits, a teaching resource pack in three parts providing a series of modules containing lesson plans to cover one year at nursery/reception. French is introduced through puppets, songs, stories and.....mini-beasts! Part 1 – two puppets introduce simple nouns, verbs, colours and counting. Part 2 – offers lessons around French story books. Part 3 – introduces mini-beasts, songs, finger rhymes and games. Includes photocopiable templates and activity sheets, so helping to keep preparation time to a minimum.
